Consumerism is linked to human evolution, and with it arise a series of environmental problems mainly related to the generation of solid waste. Such waste becomes a major environmental problem due to its final destination, often without proper treatment. Due to the by-product (leachate) generated in the activity of the sanitary landfill present high concentrations of copper, it was decided to evaluate the behavior of the soil of the base layer of the sanitary landfill of Campina Grande - PB in the adsorption of the copper metal, through a mixture of soil natural in the region and 20% of Bentonite Clay. The batch equilibrium test was used for this study, which consists of agitating the soil with a synthetic contaminant for 24 hours and then comparing the initial and final concentration of contaminant present in the sample, as a way of understanding the behavior of the soil against the contaminant, isothermal models were used. When observing the isotherms, they represent favorable values for adsorption, this is due to the analysis of their parameters. For the parameters found for the Freundlich isotherm, the value of the Freundlich adsorption constant (KF) was 0.380 mg.g-1 for the soil without bentonite, and for the soils added with 20% of bentonite the KF was 1.05 mg.g-1, representing considerable adsorption capacity. As for the parameters that relate the experimental data with the Langmuir model, there is a maximum adsorption capacity in the range of 1.07528 mg/g for soils without the addition of bentonite and 1.519003205 mg/g for soils added with 20 % bentonite clay. After analysis, it is concluded that the soil is favorable to adsorption when compared with other values obtained by studies about the mixture of natural soil and bentonite in the copper adsorption process.pt_BR
