Infective endocarditis (IE) is a serious inflammatory and infectious disease that can attack the inner surface structures of the heart and prosthetic valves and it may conduce to the death of the patient. Many health conditions can lead to the appearance of the IE, it makes the patients who have those conditions as been risky patients and many dental procedures can lead to the IE for the high-risk patients. The current study’s objective was to evaluate and compare the knowledge and conduct of duly registered in the 5th, 6th, 9th and 10th periods dentistry students of campus I of the Universidade Estadual da Paraíba (UEPB) about IE prevention, grouping them on students of the 3rd year (5th and 6th periods) and students of the 5th year (9th and 10th periods). The statistical analysis was made by using Pearson's chi-square test (or Fischer’s exact test as appropriated) in the Statistical Package for Social Sciences for Windows version 20.0, SPSS IBM software, considering 95,0% as trust interval. 57 students answered the research, 27 of the 3rd year, and 30 of the 5th year. The results have shown that only 19,3% of the interviewed defined the IE as the most correct way and only 21,1% said the correct drug protocol to the antibiotic prophylaxis with the high-risk patients. Most parts of students (91,2%) marked the previous bacterial endocarditis as a risky condition to the IE, but only 12,3% considered the complex congenital cyanotic disease as a risky condition. For the cases of tooth extraction, 86,0% of the students said that would prescribe antibiotics to prevent the IE but just 17,5% said that would prescribe the prophylaxis when they do periodontal probing. The conclusion is there are doubts about causes, consequences, prevention, and manegement of risky patients to the IE between dentistry students of the 3rd and 5th year from UEPB and it show us a necessity of a better approach over this subject during the undergraduate matters to finish the deficiencies of a significant part of the interviewed.pt_BR
