Resumo:
Objective: to analyze the use of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in association with methylene blue photosensitizer in the repair process of periapical tissues, through a clinical case report. Case report: Patient KSS, 15 years old, attended the dental clinic of the Universidade Estadual da Paraíba, Campus VIII with a complaint of discomfort in the region of tooth 36 and the presence of a "little ball" below the indicated tooth. After clinical and radiographic examination, the patient was diagnosed with an chronic apical abscess, in which a circumscribed hypodense image with a close relationship with the distal root of the evaluated tooth was observed by means of Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), which is compatible with a periapical lesion of inflammatory nature, in addition, there was a hypodense image compatible with a furcation lesion. In this scenario, it was pulpectomy. Endodontic treatment was performed in multiple sessions due to the presence of persistent intracanal exudate and calcium hydroxide-based medication was used between sessions. In the last session, complementary therapies were used, such as activation of auxiliary chemical solutions, 2.5% sodium hypochlorite and 17% EDTA with Easy Clean, followed by PDT with low intensity laser at 660nm with 0.005% methylene blue with application of 9J of red light for 90 seconds on each channel. Conclusion: In view of the therapy used in this case report, it was observed that after three months of follow-up, there was a positive result with the absence of symptoms and radiographic image of periapical bone neoformation.
