dc.description.abstract200 years ago, a woman, daughter of an influential philosopher and motherless, forever changed the history of literature and was responsible for establishing a genre that continues to this day as the most consumed and sought after by its readers. This article analyzes the elements that led to the creation of the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley(1797-1851) and how this work contributed and was a precursor to the beginning of science fiction. In this sense, this article proposes to raise questions about how the author's work influenced the beginning of a new genre and if the traumas in her personal life were the basis for her work and the characters' relationship with their reality ?!pt_BR
